Overview of Project Management Process

Proposing

Develop a proposal and initial planning document that includes background information, statement of the business problem to be resolved, and a description of the existing technical environment.

Planning

Identify the scope of a project, outline the roles of team members, and develop a project plan.

Analyzing

Identify business requirements and critical issues, decide to build or buy, initiate operations planning, and develop a summary of conclusions.

Designing

Capture and document a technology-independent view of the business process and have business expert review general and detail design.

Building

Build everything from the technical architecture to contingency plans, a database to the security environment.

Testing

Test in isolation first, and then perform full scale tests.

Implementing

Implementation may include data conversions, completion of production environment, support and documentation.

Maintaining

Maintenance may include upgrades and/or enhancements, communications, support, disaster planning and change management.
